DIY Glass Vase Using Crushed Ice Rock

This week has been all about home decor. I have been on a mission to create the illusion of minimalism amongst all my fabric and sewing tools all over the dinning room. Chris occasionally mentions how he can’t get around or how he’d like for there to not be multiple piles of fabric on top of the bookshelf or how he looks forward to me having my own office so he doesn’t have to see my crazy fabric stash, lol. Subtle not subtle right, hehe. I’m not going to lie that area was driving me crazy too. It seemed that no matter how often I cleared it off. It would be full of fabric or sewing tools a couple of days later.

I found a way to consolidate my stash into the white cubbies at the bottom of the bookshelf by sewing through my stash like crazy. I still have a lot more to get through but at least it’s just one pile. My friends got be a wine basket after my surgery last year and not only did we love the wine and goodies that came with it, but also the black basket that it was shipped in. I have been using it to bring my sewing items up and down the stairs when I needed to press them or cut out the fabric. Now I don’t need to do that because I got a cutting table. The basket’s purpose now is to hold fabric I plan to use very soon. This way I don’t have to dig through the cubbies looking for fabric.

Now that I had my sewing area under control, I could focus on what I want to put on the top of the shelf. Chris said nothing is good for him, lol. And that response is the very reason that he left me in charge of putting our home together. That empty space wouldn’t work for me because there was too much so I started searching the web for home decor. I wanted something that would go with my bouquet (that I also made). I planned to put the bouquet, our wedding invite, and menu in a shadow box so I wanted something that went with a wedding theme. I kept coming across vases that had ice rock or pearls in them and I thought why not put that on the outside and create some texture. And I have to say that I love it. It gives the vase a chiseled look.

A glass vase
Fake ice rocks
Hot glue gun
Cardboard

I use the cardboard to work on so that I didn’t get glue on my table. The rocks have a concave part that you can wrap around the vase so I rotated the rock until it laid flat up against the vase and glued it in place. I started from the bottom and worked my way to the top. I did this while watching Angel. October is the month that I go scary movie and TV show crazy, so I binged on that while I put this together. Just a couple of episodes and then I was done.
