Finally, an Easy Solution to Repurpose Your Old Jeans

I finally found an easy solution to repurpose an old pair of jeans I purchased years ago. Along with sewing my own clothes I like to go thrifting from time to time. It really is a fun pastime that I highly recommend everyone try at least once. Hitting the jackpot with a find online is not always possible. Places like Poshmark do not give you the option to try on the clothes before you buy them so it’s always a gamble. That is exactly what happened to me. I decided to give a pair of Michael Kors jeans a try. What a disappointment. The crotch depth was not deep enough so when I sat down I gave everyone a show.

Now that was embarrassing. And don’t get me started on the length. If you don’t know already I am 5’2″. Yep, that’s right I am a petite woman and not ashamed of it. Part of the reason I started sewing was that it was tiresome hemming my store-bought pants all the time. For me, the petite section in stores looks dated and lacks diversity. With sewing, I get to be an artist and let my imagination run wild.

That is exactly what I did with my old jeans. I already cut the hem once, but the crotch area remained too tight to sit comfortably. And I don’t believe in losing weight to fit in clothes. I want to be comfortable in the skin that I’m in and learn how to make my clothes work for me. I vaguely remembered that Mimi G had a YouTube tutorial for altering jeans into a skirt so I thought what the heck I’ll give it a try.

Growing tired of moving those jeans from one side of the closet to another I told myself, “Enough is Enough”. And let me tell you this is one of the easiest tutorials I have followed on YouTube.
